Natasha Harsh
Contemporary Original Paintings and Mixed-Media.
Brooklyn New York

After graduating from Philadelphia College of Art, I moved to New York City. Over the years, I have had several solo shows and participated in numerous group exhibitions. While working in my studio at 41 Union Square West, I was intrigued by the "organized chaos"of the Farmer's Market. Sketching the overflowing crates of fruit and vegetables brought the realization of the intrinsic abstract qualities of the arrangements. An ever-evolving series of oils, watercolors and aquatints ensued. With "still-life" as a predominant genre, I focus on the "life" aspect of this term and think of my images of vegetables as "portraits". Strangely enough others have seen these painting in the same way and I have had numerous traditional portrait commissions plus a "garden portrait commission". My approach to a painting is the same - whatever the subject- try to capture the "subject's" essence with the ultimate goal of evoking a basic, familiar responsive chord in the viewer. And on a lighter note- make an attractive work of art that will just appeal to the senses. My work has been featured in the New York Times, Brooklyn Magazine, Food Arts Magazine, "Best of New York Artists and Artisans" 20005,Art Business News and reproduced extensively for promotion of the Ft.Greene GreenMarket in NYC.
